摘要: Background We previously demonstrated that nuclear and cytoplasmic accumulation of the intracellular domain (Ep-ICD) epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) accompanied by a reciprocal reduction its extracellular (EpEx), occurs in aggressive thyroid cancers. This study was designed to determine whether similar Ep-ICD is common event other cancers. Methodology Results Ten cancers were immunohistochemically analyzed using EpEx domain-specific antibodies. The subcellular localization human colon adenocarcinoma line CX-1 observed immunofluorescence. Nuclear expression increased breast (31 38 tissues, 82%), prostate (40 49 head neck (37 57 65%) esophagus (17 46 37%) compared their corresponding normal tissues showed membrane protein. Importantly, not detected nuclei cells most tissues. High also occurred six cancer types - lung, colon, liver, bladder, pancreatic, ovarian. A concomitant subset all types. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis revealed distinguished with 82% sensitivity 100% specificity 78% specificity. Similar findings for these We provide clinical evidence membranous cancers. Conclusions Increased them from high-sensitivity, specificity, AUC. Development robust high throughput assay will facilitate determination diagnostic, prognostic therapeutic relevance
