摘要: The efficient digital representation of image and video signals has been the subject considerable research over past 20 years. Digital video-coding technology developed into a mature field products have that are targeted for wide range emerging applications, such as on demand, TV/HDTV broadcasting, multimedia image/video database services. With increased commercial interest in communications, need international image- video-compression standards arose. To meet this need, Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) was formed to develop coding standards. MPEG-1 MPEG-2 attracted much attention worldwide, with an increasing number very large scale integration (VLSI) software implementations these becoming commercially available. MPEG-4, most recent MPEG standard is still under development, future content-based applications. We provide overview algorithms their role communications. review basic concepts techniques relevant context outline algorithms. specific properties related applications presented, elements forthcoming MPEG-4 also described. discuss performance success market place.
