摘要: The work of a nurse practitioner was compared with that general practitioner. Both were equally available to the same patient population over period. saw similar age and sex distribution patients doctor but different types problems. More she for followup chronic diseases, health advice screening measures while fewer acutely ill. dealt four times as many patients. managed 78% her consultations without referral doctor, 89% resorting prescribed drugs. There high level satisfaction 97% who would choose consult again. role in our practice has developed differently from post another setting, thus emphasizing need flexibility when defining role. Nurse practitioners are valuable extra resource development new areas care, rather than cheaper substitute
