Worldwide, increase in life span has led to an morbidity mortality as result of chronic, lifestyle-influenced diseases such type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer. Nutrient deficiency are giving way energy imbalances, links chronic disease becoming clearer. The global demographic, epidemiologic, nutrition transitions dramatic point urgent need focus on preventive approaches health care. Thus, research shifted from focusing exclusively alleviating nutrient deficiencies also stressing prevention. Ongoing initiatives optimize long-term promote healthy based concept functional fitness, ie, ability lead active life. Dietary Reference Intakes provide a framework for assessing adequacy at population individual levels. In addition, Eating Index provides single summary measure quality. To effect changes lifestyles we age, care providers consider all environmental factors contributing suboptimal eating patterns.
