Energy-efficient, temperature stable, high data rate VCSELs for optical interconnects

摘要: Principles of energy-efficient high speed operation oxide-confined vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are presented. Trade-offs between oxide-aperture diameter, current density, and energy consumption per bit demonstrated discussed. Record error-free data transmission up to 40 Gb/s, across 1000 m multimode optical fiber at 85 °C is reported with dissipated reaching 50 fJ/bit room temperature.
