摘要: Early stages of decay by two brown-rot fungi in woods were studied light and scanning electron microscopy. The earliest diagnostic feature to appear was hyphae the earlywood lumina. effect on cell walls loss birefringence earlywood; Poria placenta (syn. Postia placenta) caused this at stage observed, both Douglas-fir white fir, while Gloeophyllum trabeum significant weight before visible. Attack latewood progressed from earlywood, different pattern among wood/fungus combinations. Hyphal bore hole diameter increased throughout early progression would be useful evaluating decay, if starting could determined. Separation between cells not observed until moderate and, therefore, diagnosing decay.
