Moth responses to sympathetic hedgerow management in temperate farmland.

摘要: Hedgerows provide valuable habitats and corridors for many species in farmland, yet a lack of appropriate management may threaten their benefits to biodiversity. Although agri-environment scheme (AES) prescriptions on hedgerow have the potential reverse detrimental effect over-trimming wildlife, effectiveness has rarely been addressed. The aims study were (i) assess moth responses trimming regimes; (ii) investigate influence surrounding landscape assemblages. We specifically tested regime recommended by targeted AES that was implemented farms near greater horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus ferrumequinum) colonies since it represented most sympathetic option among English options. sampled adult micro- macro-moths along 64 hedgerows located within 20 using light traps, classified moths into two guilds reflecting larval food preferences, namely grass/herb- shrub/tree-feeders. Our results suggest reducing positive impact macro-moth richness as well shrub/tree-feeder abundance richness. It also benefited four are significantly declining Britain. Furthermore, while proportion woodland at large spatial scale (3.0 km radius around sampling sites) positively associated with grass/herb-feeders, connectivity had shrub/tree-feeders medium (1.5 km radius) scales, respectively. Both negatively affected presence arable fields adjacent hedgerows. Overall, these findings reveal wider biodiversity AESs focusing habitat improvement R. ferrumequinum, importance landscape. therefore strongly recommend implementing multi-scale approach (i.e. from field landscape) through use adequate conserve agricultural landscapes.
