摘要: Cost–benefit considerations of wildlife monitoring are essential, particularly, in areas outside national park boundaries, where resources for conducting censuses scarce, but that, at the same time, subject to high pressure utilization, such as hunting. Large mammal survey data from various sources were collated and analyzed investigate which methods best suited purposes low cost Tarangire–Manyara ecosystem, northern Tanzania. Our results indicate that primary (from aerial road transects counts) involve direct species observations, although sometimes very expensive, required establishing status target terms density or population size. Concomitantly, secondary sources, interviews, hunting quota, damage reports, obtained over wide longer periods can provide important information on presence/absence distribution within an area. In addition, study revealed quotas set did not correlate with abundance/numbers surveys most large mammals hunted ecosystem. For a better conservation management wildlife, particular respect forthcoming formation Wildlife Management Areas, we propose integrated approach using through involvement local people’s knowledge.
