摘要: A comprehensive survey on organochlorine (OC) contaminants in polar bears at Svalbard has been undertaken. Subcutaneous tissue, blood and milk have sampled from anesthetized free-ranging of both sexes different ages the period 1990 to 1994. number sexually mature females fitted with satellite transmitters which make it possible follow their reproductive behaviour pattern. We report contamination levels pattern PCB congeners, chlordanes, DDT-compounds, HCB HCH-isomers various tissues. The relation age, sex status OC described, capacity metabolising OCs discussed isomer/metabolite composition residues. Finally, association between reproduction success assessed. present are extremely high. Especially high higher chlorinated PCBs found, they accumulate particularly males. With females, considerable amounts transferred offspring via milk. However, more efficient transfer subcutaneous depot lipid circulatory lipids than system is found for most lipophilic compounds. suckling yearlings reflects low highest into maternal other OCs, however, that mothers. metabolise several OCs. This may protect them against toxic action contaminants. No ability get pregnant this preliminary investigation effects Svalbard.
