摘要: Zingiber zerumbet (L.) Smith belongs to the Zingiberaceae family that is widely distributed throughout tropics, particularly in Southeast Asia. It locally known as ‘Lempoyang’ and traditionally used treat fever, constipation relieve pain. also possess antioxidant anti-inflammatory activities. Based on these activities, this study was conducted investigate effects of ethyl-acetate extract Z. rhizomes against ethanol-induced brain damage male Wistar rats. Twenty-four rats were divided into four groups which consist normal, 1.8 g/kg ethanol (40% v/v), 200 mg/kg plus 400 mg/kg ethanol. The given once daily by oral gavage, 30 min prior exposure via intraperitoneal route for 14 consecutive days. then sacrificed. Blood homogenate subjected biochemical tests part tissue sectioned histological analysis. Treatment with at significantly reduced level malondialdehyde (MDA) protein carbonyl (p < 0.05) homogenate. Both doses extracts increased serum superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities well (GSH) (p < 0.05). However, administration showed better protective shown higher levels SOD, CAT, GPx GSH compared dose. Histological observation cerebellum cerebral cortex prevented loss Purkinje cells retained number shape cells. Ethyl-acetate has mediated through its properties. protects properties
