The impact of a brief intervention on maternal smoking behavior.

摘要: Objective. To determine if mothers receiving a smoking cessation intervention emphasizing health risks of environmental tobacco smoke (ETS) for their children have higher quit rate than 1) routine advice or 2) control group. Design. Randomized, controlled trial. Setting. Primary care center in large urban children9s hospital. Intervention. Four hundred seventy-nine were randomly assigned to either aimed at child9s own health, group safety information. Outcome Measures. Smoking status, stage change, cigarettes/day, location occurred, and knowledge ETS effects. Results. Complete data (baseline both follow-ups) available 166 subjects. There was no impact assignment on the rate, change. The Child Health Group had sustained effect where reportedly occurred (usually outside) improved Conclusions. Further research is needed devise more effective methods using pediatric setting influence adult behaviors.
