摘要: Abstract Background: Hospitalization with tobacco-related illness increases smokers’ interest in cessation. Because parental smoking the child’s risk of developing respiratory and other illnesses, a hospitalization might motivate parent to consider changing behavior. It is unclear if parents would be receptive smoking-cessation interventions at time when their child hospitalized. Methods: In March 1999, 298 consecutive children admitted medical services Children’s Hospital Boston were interviewed determine status household members. Smoking invited complete 35-item questionnaire regarding personal history acceptability three types cessation interventions. Results: Sixty-five identified among admissions; 62 65 (95%) participated survey. Among respondents, only 15% had ever any program, 31% used medication try quit. Although 78% willing speak counselor about while was hospital, 74% enroll telephone-based 26% interested free program requiring travel back hospital. All believed that pediatricians should offer smokers chance participate program. Conclusions: At hospitalization, are include in-hospital telephone counseling but not A may provide unique opportunity who smoke into programs.
