摘要: Life on earth evolved in the absence of oxygen with inorganic gases as potential sources carbon and energy. Among alternative mechanisms for dioxide (CO₂) fixation living world, only reduction CO₂ by Wood-Ljungdahl pathway, which is used acetogenic bacteria, complies two requirements to sustain life: conservation energy production biomass. However, how conserved bacteria has been an enigma since their discovery. In this Review, we discuss latest progress biochemistry genetics metabolism model acetogens, elucidating these couple conservation.
