摘要: A single ion immersed in a neutral buffer gas is studied. An analytical model developed that gives complete description of the dynamics and steady-state properties ions. extension this model, using techniques employed mathematics economics finance, used to explain recent observation non-Maxwellian statistics for these systems. Taken together, results offer an explanation long-standing issues associated with sympathetic cooling by gas.
