摘要: • Culture ofHaemophilus ducreyiremains the definitive way to diagnose chancroid. Since its discovery in 1889, cultural isolation of this fastidious organism has been a challenge for clinicians and microbiologists. A recent chancroid epidemic our locale prompted review available culture techniques. Despite development various selective solid media last 20 years, diagnosis remains problematic. Many pitfalls may complicate procedure, such as concomitant syphilis, or herpes progenitalis simulating chancroid, strain differences nutritional requirements, improper handling delayed inoculation clinical specimens, use suboptimal growth conditions, vancomycin hydrochloride-sensitive organisms. Highest yield will be obtained by using enriched gonococcal agar base Mueller-Hinton biplate fashion. As most isolates are sensitive vancomycin, incorporation antibiotic should routine. However, screening vancomycin-sensitive organisms is indicated when negative cultures repeatedly from clinically typical cases originating same community. Development immunodiagnostic DNA probe tests underway.
