摘要: Available evidence suggests that young adults and seniors use different strategies to adjust for increasing body sway during quiet standing. Altered antagonist muscle co-activation ankle coordination patterns may account this finding. Consequently, we aimed at addressing whether aging leads changes in neuromuscular as well stance. We additionally investigated a bout of high intensity interval training alters these patterns. Twenty healthy (age: 70 ± 4 y) twenty 27 ± 3 were enrolled the present study. In between testing procedures, four consecutive high-intensity intervals 4 min duration target exercise 90 95% HRmax completed on treadmill. The total center pressure (COP) path length displacement served standing balance performance outcome. order assess patterns, amplitude ratios (AR) calculated each (e.g. tibialis anterior (TA) [%] = (TA × 100)/(gastrocnemius medialis (GM) + soleus (SOL) + peroneus longus (PL) + TA). was SOL TA muscles computing index (CAI = 2 × TA/TA + SOL). Seniors showed an inverted pattern single limb stance with eyes open (SLEO), compared (rest: GM, S: 15 ± 8% vs Y: 24 ± 9%; p = 0.03; SOL, 27 ± 14% 37 ± 18%; p = 0.009; TA, 31 ± 13% 13 ± 7%; p = 0.003). These did not change after session. A moderate correlation TA-contribution postural observed SLEO (r = 0.61). Ankle twofold elevated (p < 0.001). findings also affected by training. Increased anterior-posterior plane merely occurred single-leg decreased control higher contributions SLEO. are acute intermittent aerobic exercise.
