摘要: The technology of using metallic iron (Fe0) for in situ generation oxides water treatment is a very old one. Fe0 remediation has been re-discovered the framework groundwater permeable reactive barriers (PRBs). Despite its simplicity, improvement PRBs fraught with difficulties regarding their operating modes. literature dealing contains ambiguities invention and development. present paper examines sequence contributions prior to advent order clarify seemingly complex picture. To achieve this, current addresses following questions: (i) What were motivations various authors developing respective innovations over years?, (ii) what are ancient achievements which can accelerate progress knowledge development PRBs?, (iii) was really used removal organic species first time 1970s? A careful examination works reveals that: wrong questions asked during past three decades, as premised reducing agent, credit belongs no individual scientist, use filtration systems safe drinking provision scientists from 1850s, while aqueous does not belong pioneers PRB technology. However, it these who exploited remediation, thereby extending potential. Complementing recent chemistry Fe0/H2O system would facilitate design more sustainable Fe0-remediation systems.
