摘要: Scientific instruments can help to shape and re-shape epistemic boundaries, especially those between communities of scienti?c researchers. But how do they function at boundaries non-experts? This paper examines the use air monitoring boundary petrochemical facilities nearby residential communities, asking whether a new generation fenceline monitors shared by industry (and regulatory agency) experts community members alter two groups. Arguing that organized around are characterized, in part, common understanding evidential contexts for instrumental data, shows which residents interpret data diverge. Instead new, helping reconcile differences over contexts, pre-existing interpretation from instruments–perpetuating members.
