摘要: The thalamus, a key information processing centre in facilitating sensory discrimination and cognitive processes, has been implicated schizophrenia due to the increasing evidence showing structural functional thalamic abnormalities. Glutamatergic abnormalities, particular, have examined since glutamate is one of main neurotransmitters found thalamus. We aimed review existing literature (1978 till 2007) on post-mortem vivo studies various components glutamatergic neurotransmission as well receptor genes within thalamus schizophrenia. search was done using multiple databases including Scopus, Web Science, EBSCO host, Pubmed ScienceDirect. Keywords used were "glutamate", "thalamus", "schizophrenia", "abnormalities", "glutamatergic". Further searches made bibliographies journals related papers obtained. extant data suggest that abnormalities receptors other molecules involved (including transporters associated proteins, N-methyl D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-associated intracellular signaling enzymes) are There pressing need for more rapid replication findings from post mortem genetic promotion multi-component or multi-modality assessments anomalies order allow better appreciation disruptions these molecular networks These future may represent potential novel targets antipsychotic drugs ameliorate symptoms
