摘要: Introduction The effects of botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A) on masseter muscles, when injected for cosmetic purposes (volumetric reduction) or treatment excessive muscle activity (bruxism), have been investigated. However, the full anatomic are not known, particularly with respect to mandible and relevant anthropometric measurements. intent this study was use unilaterial BoNT/A injections induce localized atrophy paresis then measure influence craniofacial growth development. Methods Growing male Wistar rats, 30 days old, were studied. experimental group consisted 8 rats. One side other saline. belonged 1 saline sham group. Three rats without control. After 45 days, muscles dissected weighed. Dry skulls prepared, measurements determined. Results One-way ANOVA showed that animals maintained their weight in both groups; however, smaller than control muscles. Anthropometric bony structures attached a significant effect. Conclusions induced by injection, alterations bone development seen. results agree functional matrix theory soft tissues regulate growth.
