摘要: Abstract This paper presents detailed data on the thermal response of two 500 gal ASME code propane tanks that were 25% engulfed in a hydrocarbon fire. These tests done as part an overall test programme to study protection systems for propane-filled railway tank-cars. The fire was generated using array 25 liquid propane-fuelled burners. provided luminous tank surface one side. intent these model severe partially engulfing situation. wall and lading temperatures internal pressure. In first wind reduced heating resulted late failure at 46 min. failed catastrophically with powerful boiling expanding vapour explosion (BLEVE). other test, very steady this quickly 8 min finite rupture massive two-phase jet release. reasons different outcomes are discussed. failures provide range realistic subject condition.
