Equine trypanosomosis in the Central River Division of The Gambia: a study of veterinary gate-clinic consultation records.

摘要: The objective of this,study was to provide epidemiological information equine trypanosomosis in the Central River Division (CRD) Gambia. Therefore, 2285 consultations records equines, admitted a gate-clinic at Sololo CRD, were studied retrospectively. data recorded period between September 1995 and July 2002 comprised 2113 horses 172 donkeys. 'Trypanosome infection' most frequently diagnosed condition accounted for 61% cases. Horses more with trypanosome infections than donkeys (p 1 year) observed young (54.5% <1 year; p = 0.033). number decreased during rainy season (June-September). majority equines that severely anaemic. average packed cell volume (PCV) declined increasing parasitaemia 0.006). Seventy-four percent farmers' predictions their confirmed by darkground-microscopy. That proved farmers had fairly accurate knowledge diseases affecting equines. treatments executed generally effective. few (0.4%) relapses T vivax previously treated diminazene aceturate this study not sufficient prove drug resistance. showed analysis consultation can complementary conventional studies same research area.
