摘要: Coumarin is a secondary phytochemical with hepatotoxic and carcinogenic properties. For the effect, genotoxic mechanism was considered possible, but discounted by European Food Safety Authority in 2004 based on new evidence. This allowed derivation of tolerable daily intake (TDI) for first time, value 0.1 mg/kg body weight arrived at animal hepatotoxicity data. However, clinical data from patients treated coumarin as medicinal drug also available. revealed subgroup human population being more susceptible effect than species investigated. The cause high susceptibility currently unknown; possible mechanisms are discussed. Using data, TDI derived, confirming that Authority. Nutritional exposure may be considerably, mainly due to use cassia cinnamon, which popular spice especially, used cookies sweet dishes. To estimate during Christmas season Germany, telephone survey performed 1000 randomly selected persons. Heavy consumers cinnamon reach corresponding TDI.
