Maximum Size and Throughput of SOA-Based Optical Burst Switching Nodes With Limited Tuning-Range Wavelength Converters and FDL Buffers

摘要: In this paper, we show the physical limitations of semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA)-based switching nodes for burst (OBS). The investigation covers one basic tune-and-select (TAS) architecture, as well extensions with wavelength converters limited tuning range (LTR) and dedicated shared fiber delay line (FDL) buffers. Their maximum size throughput are analyzed four input/output fibers at different bit rates. As main impairments signal degradation noise crosstalk considered. It is shown that advanced contention resolution functionality leads to smaller-sized due higher losses noise. Among considered node architectures highest can be achieved TAS-LTR smaller number SOA contributions.
