Beyond Traditional Scientific Training: The Importance of Community and Empowerment for Women in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology

摘要: While the biological sciences have achieved gender parity in undergraduate and graduate career stages, this is not case at faculty level. The WEBS (Women Evolving Biological Sciences) symposia go beyond traditional scientific training professional development to address factors critical women’s persistence careers: community empowerment. Through a series of panel discussions, personal reflections skills workshops, creates community-based experience space for participants grapple with central issues affecting their careers. Longitudinal qualitative survey data suggest that bolsters participants’ confidence empowerment, addition providing concrete addressing range necessary navigating careers, leading increased satisfaction self-efficacy (i.e., belief one’s capacity pursue chosen career).
