摘要: Abstract The factors responsible for prevention of duodenal mucosal injury are not known. This series experiments was performed to determine whether the human duodenum secretes bicarbonate that could prevent damage. To isolate a 4-cm segment proximal (i.e., bulb) or distal free contamination from either gastric pancreaticobiliary secretion, both, methods were developed using occlusive balloons. test perfused with NaCl (2 ml/min, 37 °C) containing [ 14 C]PEG as nonabsorbable marker, and output quantitated. Mean (±SE) basal 143 ± 17 μmol/cm · h. A 5-min infusion 25, 50, 100 mM HCl directly into isolated increased 167 29, 199 19, 278 49 h, respectively, during hour after acidification. Distal acidification (25, mM) also segment. synthetic prostaglandin E 1 analogue, misoprostol (1.67–13.3 μg/min), infused segments significantly stimulated outbreak; peak responses 644 35 h 171 20 (p analogue both output; however, less, indicating proximalto-distal gradient in secretion.
