摘要: This thesis explores the aspirations and perceived barriers to socioeconomic attainment of children immigrant parents. In United States, research on outcomes second generation is central study ethnic stratification. Despite significance immigration Australian society, no similar developed tradition exists. Theoretically, draws segmented assimilation theory identify as core elements in mobility process generation. The empirical data derived from qualitative interviews with eight 12-13 year old influence migration narrative their opportunity. contributes theoretically quantitative by unpacking meanings associated barriers. It also illustrating utility for understanding society. I find that shapes through three themes: cultural heritage maintenance, seeking a better life poverty avoidance. contrast, were unable talk about possible attainment.
