摘要: The earth's bow shock was observed several times at high resolution on February 12, 1969, by an array of Ogo 5 field and plasma instruments under unusual circumstances: the large angle to local normal, solar wind parameters M β were both low enough ensure laminar structures, upstream verified complementary measurements Heos 1, approximate velocities available virtue elapsed time observations obtained with two satellites. It found that (≲2.5) (≪1) θnB (≳65°) produced oblique profiles as expected from theory, marginal or vanishing standing whistlers probably damped acoustic other wave instabilities. whistler mode appeared dominate electromagnetic spectrum. ramp thickness hundred kilometers equal (2–4)c/ωpi. Composition accumulation near-standing waves evidently reproducible varying flux pattern discernible. Electron thermalization occurred early in, just before, magnetic ramp, while proton occur later in ramp. Instantaneous derived wavelength consistent average estimates 200 km/s.
