Difference without dominance: Children's talk in mixed- and same-sex dyads

摘要: This study explores whether third graders verbalize gender differences in dominance mixed- and same-sex interaction. We tape-recorded the conversations of 43 pairs Caucasian working-class children playing checkers same- or mixed-sex conditions. Children appear to develop gender-differentiated speech styles. Boys brag insult their opponents both conditions more often than do girls. Girls talk off-topic, interrupt, laugh dyads boys either, girls dyads. Gender interaction were reflected Although account for a larger proportion direct requests self-promoting encounters, we failed uncover substantial asymmetry interaction, indicating that not conversationally dominate grade.
