摘要: Research on territoriality has barely progressed beyond the descriptive stage in most aquatic insects, but some territorial species have been studied intensively and served as model organisms for testing certain aspects of evolutionary theory. After providing a brief introduction to general, I review taxonomic distribution types reported before delving into more theoretical topics. Larval feeding territories described insects several orders (Diptera, Ephemeroptera, Odonata, Plecoptera, Trichoptera), while adult mating only Odonata (damselflies dragonflies) Hemiptera (water striders ripple bugs). With mostly examples, following subjects critically: (1) determinants status outcome contests, (2) signals cues, (3) persistence interspecific territoriality, (4) agonistic character displacement. Important advances made each these areas using persistent methodological issues also impeded progress. offer general advice studying conclude by identifying where research is needed.
