Retention of information by emergency department staff at ambulance handover: do standardised approaches work?

摘要: Background: Ambulance crews usually have just one opportunity to convey information about their patients emergency department (ED) personnel. ED staff receiving from ambulance will naturally be focussed on own initial assessment of the patient, which often distracts them listening carefully crew’s handover. Important may lost after crew leaves. Methods: Current handover practice was evaluated in two large EDs. A structured DeMIST format for verbal pre-hospital then introduced into departments. The number packets each and accuracy staff’s recall assessed. Results: 56.6% given at by accurately retained before introduction DeMIST. Only 49.2% staff. Discussion: Communications training, clinical team leadership discipline must support communication process between ensure that important is not or misinterpreted.
