摘要: Abstract Flat rectangular plates of different aspect ratios were towed normal to the flow at various speeds in a quiescent fluid, with focus being study effect plate edge proximity free surface on drag force. The submergence depth was measured from upper and varied zero centre tank. It found that increases abruptly prior subsiding increasing depth, this jump more prominent low ratio plates. abrupt rise is due existence gap-flow resulting formation recirculating close base region plate. Overall, trends are Reynolds number independent, except when range 0.75 1.33, near surface. Flow visualization also employed specific certain depths understand features link them observed force trends.
