摘要: This study examined the prevalence and association of diabetes mellitus (DM) prediabetes with cardiovascular risk factors among Puerto Ricans adults. Data from a household survey 857 adults aged 21–79 years who underwent interviews, physical exams, blood draws were analyzed. Prevalence total DM was estimated using American Diabetes Association diagnostic criteria fasting plasma glucose (FPG) hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). Poisson regression models used to estimate ratio for each factor under study. Age-standardized prediabetes, detected by FPG and/or HbA1c, 25.5 47.4 %, respectively. Compared participants normoglycemia, those previously diagnosed DM, undiagnosed had more adverse profiles, characterized higher general abdominal obesity, hypertension, low HDL cholesterol, elevated LDL triglycerides, plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 (p < 0.05). The high calls public health actions plan implement lifestyle interventions prevent or delay onset disease.
