Coupled Quantum Dots Fabricated by Cleaved Edge Overgrowth: From Artificial Atoms to Molecules

摘要: Atomically precise quantum dots of mesoscopic size have been fabricated in the gallium arsenide-aluminum arsenide material system by cleaved edge overgrowth, with a high degree control over shape, composition, and position. The formation bonding antibonding states between two such "artificial atoms" was studied as function dot separation microscopic photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. coupling strength within these molecules" is characterized systematic dependence levels, PL linewidth, on "interatomic" distance. This model opens new insights into physics coupled objects.
