摘要: The literature on animal abundance and related parameters continues to grow exponentially. Carl Schwarz I, in Seber (1999), recently reviewed the over past 7 or so years. This article is available at theweb site http://www.math.sfu.ca/1 cschwarz/papers has a bibliography of 400 references. In preparing for Statistics Ecology Environmental Monitoring (SEEM) conference, I decided that, this article, would only cover small subset literature. have therefore focused few new directions that look promising are close my own interests. Adaptivesampling, discussed Section2, comparativelynew topic (post-1990)that shows considerable promise as method investigating sparse but clustered populations. More people taking research interest topic. Distance sampling using line transects, which follows next Section 3, seen an upsurge activity recent relatively cheap robust. However, there some basic ideas need clari cation. 4, discuss two-stage general powerful designing variety experiments estimating population size. Finally, Sections5 6, select topics relating capture–recapturemethods closed open advances substantial.
