5-HT Innervation of the auditory pathway in birds and bats

摘要: Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) is a neuroactive substance that widely distributed in both invertebrates and vertebrates. In vertebrates, 5-HT neurons are located mainly the raphe nuclei along midline of brainstem. Neurons project bilaterally to form fine network small terminals innervate many structures throughout brain including cell groups within auditory system. 5-HT-immunoreac- tive known be present cochlear nucleus inferior colliculus rat (Klepper Herbert, 1991), nucleus, superior olivary com- plex, lateral lemniscus guinea pig, cat bush baby (Thompson, G.C. et al., 1994; Thompson, A.M. 1995). To authors knowl- edge, however, there no study birds investigating distribution fibers pathway.
