摘要: Objectives To determine the prevalence and correlates for current cigarette smoking. Design Secondary analysis of East Timor-Leste Global Youth Tobacco Survey conducted in 2006. Setting Public private schools registered with Ministry Education. Participants A two-stage cluster sample 1790 students Grades 7 to 9. Schools were selected probability proportional enrolment size, classes randomly each school. All eligible participate survey. The school student response rates 96.0% 84.5%, respectively. Main outcome measure Prevalence Results Out adolescents, 52.1% ages less than 15 years, 51.8% males, 42.8% reported having some pocket money a month, 72.7% had at least parent who was smoker. smoking 40.3%. Current smokers also bought cigarettes from peddlers (32.4%), someone them (16.7%), got older (13.7%), borrowed (13.3%), stole (3.4%). Males more likely be females (59.0% versus 19.3%). Factors positively associated were: parental smoking; closest friend amount money; exposure anti-tobacco messages. Conclusions Timor has one highest among adolescents. fact that messages being smoker may evidence suggesting messages, especially tobacco-related industry, have unintended consequences.
