摘要: In a 20-year period (1958-77) 43 patients underwent combined pulmonary and chest wall resection for bronchial carcinoma with local invasion of the thoracic wall. The clinical data, symptoms, surgical procedures, pathology, results are reviewed. Pain was usual presenting symptom. operative mortality 16%, respiratory complications causing most postoperative morbidity mortality. These were less common after pneumonectomy. Long-term survival achieved in only three cases corrected three-year rate 10%. survivors had certain pathological features that may have prognostic significance. Recurrent responsible late deaths. Despite poor overall prognosis, management provided reasonable palliation occasionally resulted prolonged disease-free survival.
