摘要: Potent opioids are frequently used during diagnostic procedures (monitored anesthesia care), surgery, trauma and in the post-operative period. Apart from their intended effect (i.e., analgesia), these drugs posses life-threatening side effects such as respiratory depression. Depending on potency dose, depression is either mild, serious or lethal. High doses of potent intravenous surgery depress ventilation to an extent that ventilatory support by a ventilator necessary.
