摘要: Background The purpose of this study was to investigate the prophylactic irradiation volume neck drainage areas for patients with N0 classification nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) treated by intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT). Methods From January 2003 October 2008, 270 (American Joint Committee on Cancer [AJCC] 2002 staging system) NPC who had undergone IMRT were retrospectively analyzed. Among all patients, 171 received upper-neck irradiation, and 99 whole-neck irradiation. Results At a median follow-up 65.1 months (range, 4–106 months). The 5-year overall survival (OS), nodal recurrence–free (NRFS), distant metastasis–free (DMFS) rates upper group whole 93.6% vs 90.9% (p = .553), 99.4% 99.0% .278), 98.8% 94.9% .128), respectively. A total 3 recurrences found, including 2 from 1 group. latter (0.6%) an out-of-field recurrence. Conclusion Prophylactic (levels II, III, VA) may be feasible lymph node-negative NPC. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Head Neck 36: 687–693, 2014
