摘要: Small amounts of endotoxin injected intramuscularly into cows induced pyrogenic tolerance and an increase in the rate at which serum killed a strain Escherichia coli. Most difference between normal from endotoxin-tolerant animal was shown to be due bentonite-adsorbable factor other than lysozyme or beta-lysin. The antibacterial activity not completely removed either type after bentonite adsorption. Electron microscope studies measurement release radioactively labeled cytoplasmic contents showed that important final breakdown cell membrane cellular contents. system totally dependent on complement, importance antibodies could entirely ruled out because adsorption O C with homologous cells eliminated killing activity.
