摘要: This paper focuses on the recently emerging, but infrequently considered, reasons for non-adoption of soil conservation (SC) technologies by local farmers. They include insufficient economic returns farmer invest ments which are often long-term in nature and difficult to perceive or measure. More recent innovations, such as multi purpose hedges cover crops, able provide either productivity benefits within one year, lateral bene fits, marketable products, that offset farmers' investment. Unfortunately, artificial incentives still used many government-funded projects promote expensive traditional structures aimed at retention rather than vegetation cover. Such measures attract interest wrong seldom outlive project since they under mine motivation experiment innovate. Rather focus adoption a given tech nology SC should aim building community capability sustainable agricultural development. will encourage farmers adapt according their changing circumstances result development process. Capability be built through farmer-to-farmer dissemination begins training best motivated extensionists. Technologies simple, based locally available materials, offer rapid easy recognize motivate Productivity, income generated recuperated soil, must increased. harvesting water may required make this viable.
