摘要: Since their characterization more than five decades ago, gap junctions and structural proteins—the connexins—have been associated with cancer cell growth. During that period, the accumulation of data molecular knowledge about this association revealed an apparent contradictory relationship between them cancer. It appeared if or connexins can down regulate growth they be also implied in migration, invasion metastatic dissemination cells. Interestingly, all these situations, seem to involved through various mechanisms which act either as gap-junctional intercellular communication mediators, modulators signalling pathways interactome, hemichannels, mediate autocrine/paracrine communication. This complex involvement progression is even complicated by fact hemichannel function may overlap other junction-related proteins, pannexins. Despite complexity, possible involvements pannexins elucidation control lead use new targets progression. In review, different topics (cancer growth, invasion/metastasis process, therapeutic targets) are discussed.
