摘要: Abstract Condition index [CI = (meat weight × 100)/(total − shell weight)] of green mussels grown on longlines was monitored monthly for 2 years at 12 commercial farms in Pelorus-Kenepuru Sound. Water temperature and salinity, total paniculate matter, chlorophyll a carbon were recorded approximately 2-monthly intervals six the CI stations. showed an annual cycle (high autumn/winter/spring low summer) with year-to-year differences amplitude, regional pattern (lowest most seaward stations, highest towards upper reaches Sound). The environmental data paralleled condition by showing gradients along length Anomalies patterns resulted from localised conditions occurring major embayments off main channel. On industry-wide scale abiotic factors salinity) more highly correlated mussel than measuring available food (chlorophyll a, participates). However, lower ambient levels changes concentration strongly associated CI. A threshold, about 200 μg C l−1, identified, below which declined significantly. variation between years, months, represents meat yield are economically significant.
