摘要: Background Telomeres are essential for chromosomal integrity and stability. Shortened telomere length (TL) has been associated with risk of cancers aging-related diseases. Several studies have explored associations between TL cancer prognosis, but the results conflicting. Methods Prospective on relationship survival were identified by a search PubMed up to May 25, 2015. There no restrictions type or DNA source. The quality included was assessed using Newcastle-Ottawa Scale. Meta-analysis approaches conducted determine pooled relative risks 95% confidence intervals. Results Thirty-three articles containing forty-five independent ultimately involved in our meta-analysis, which twenty-seven about overall eighteen progression. Short increased mortality (RR = 1.30, 95%CI: 1.06–1.59) poor progression 1.44, 1.10–1.88), both high levels heterogeneity (I2 83.5%, P 0.012for I2 75.4%, 0.008 progression). an predictor chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Besides, short telomeres also colorectal decreased esophageal cancer, not other cancers. Cancer Asian America populations predicted older populations. Compared tumor tissue cells, blood lymphocyte cells better prediction. In addition, remained significant when restricted adjustments age, larger sample sizes, measuring southern blotting estimating effects hazard ratios. Conclusion Short demonstrated association survival, suggesting potential prognostic significance TL. Additional large well-designed needed confirm findings.
