摘要: The rate of cooling fused-silica fibers and the generation stress in clad fused silica 96%-silica glass (∼125 μm OD) pulled at 1750°C were studied. Experimental rates reported by previous workers fitted using low- high-temperature heat-transfer coefficients derived from their data. birefringence which developed consisting was measured found to change sign as a function magnitude pulling stress. A model involving differences viscosity (mechanical stress) well expansion coefficient (thermal is proposed account for this behavior.
