摘要: Abstract Aim The interrelationship between insulin resistance and beta cell secretion has been qualitatively described by a hyperbolic function quantitatively the disposition index. concepts behind these assumptions are however still controversial this review aims to briefly recall main aspects of paradigm in terms mathematical representation derived indices, together with criticisms various features. Synthesis relationship is analyzed qualitative curve respect possible physiological mechanism underlying that particular shape. Quantitatively, index, which derives from non-linear hyperbola-like curve, provides an integrated figure glucose tolerance including both sensitivity secretion. Different types metabolic tests different categories subjects may yield relationships two processes. However, formulas for index can be wrong reasons highlighted. Conclusions Insulin related inverse, shows critical importance dysfunction development type 2 diabetes. mirror important evaluating those factors (hypothetically) signal reduction sensitivity, novel treatments restore normal relation pancreatic activity.
