摘要: Carcinoma of the ovary is leading cause death from gynecological cancer in western countries. Ovarian carcinoma commonly associated with accumulation fluid containing malignant cells peritoneal, and not infrequently pleural cavity. The differentiation these reactive mesothelial at times difficult. In addition, tumor progression ovarian biological characteristics effusions compared to their counterparts solid tumors are poorly understood. This review details current knowledge regarding diagnostic biologic aspects effusion cytology, emphasis on carcinoma. Results our first studies subsequently presented. These attempt address several issues. First, improve ability detect using antibodies designed for epithelial cells. Secondly, study genotypic phenotypic differences between effusions, primary metastatic lesions, as well compare peritoneal effusions. carbohydrate antigens, E‐cadherin complex matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) attempted evaluate whether possess true properties, or similar tumors, thereby merely representing result a shedding process. Finally, prognostic role molecules was studied patient cohort consisting long‐ short‐term survivors, followed up 20 years. Figure 1 http://www.esacp.org/acp/2001/23‐3,4/davidson.htm.
