Out‐of‐pocket payments by end‐stage kidney disease patients on regular hemodialysis: Cost of illness analysis, experience from Sudan

摘要: INTRODUCTION In Sudan, the number of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients receiving hemodialysis (HD) is growing. Patients and their families incur a high out-of-pocket expenditure (OOPE), given that HD treatment expensive. There are limited data about OOP spending on in country. This study aims to explore patients' expense direct medical nonmedical goods services which extent they can be predicted from sociodemographic characteristics, health insurance status, comorbidity, accommodation change. METHODS descriptive cross-sectional conducted Ibn Sina Hospital. One hundred thirty undergo regular were randomly selected. FINDINGS Among participants (130), median overall total (direct nonmedical) per year was found US$ 3859.1 (interquartile range [IQR]: 2298.1-6261.1). As for medians costs, 2327.6 (IQR: 1421.5-3804.8) 1096 715.2-2345.2), respectively. The (355,586 US$) accounted 60% expenses. DISCUSSION Medications investigations primary drivers spending. Higher OOPE rates among those with one or more these factors; uninsured patients, patient female gender, over 40 years aged. multivariate analysis showed significant predictors comorbid conditions, where as change gender. results better understanding its associated within context Sudan. Further research needed this area.
