摘要: Hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) is an emerging contaminant according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). RDX was introduced as a secondary explosive during World War II. It still used in many such hand grenades. enters environment mostly through manufacturing process or from use of explosives. suspected carcinogen and can also affect nervous system humans. Therefore, has become chemical concern across United States military bases open closed plants. The goal this research evaluate biodegradation via two phototrophic bacteria: Rhodobacter sphaeroides ATCC® 17023TM Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803. ability degrade bacteria could make remediation more passive. A passive option be easier cost effective way remediate RDX. Biodegradation been successful with other bacteria, but 6803 studied because it robust grows well aerobic environments. specific objectives for were to: 1. Determine if electron acceptors nitrate (1 mM), sulfate (10 perchlorate mM) influence R. sphaeroides’ under ideal conditions (growth succinate donor). 2. oxygen present. 3. so, what conditions.
